New Mexico Collection 8

Native to the Kalahari Desert the Oryx was brought to Southern New Mexico in 1969.  The Oryx is a large antelope that weighs up to 450 pounds and stands 47 inches tall at the shoulder.  Both male and female Oryx have horns. Their brown coloring with distictive black-and-white markings enable them to hide among desert shrub

Mesilla Plaza, Las Cruces.  The Basilica of San Albino was founded in 1851, and the present structure dates to 1906.  With the Gadsden Purchase in 1854, Mesilla officially became part of the New Mexico Territory.
