The Great American Flag at Space Port America
giant flag
The Great American Flag was unfurled in 1980, and was dedicated to the 52 American hostages that were held in Iran. At the time of its construction, it was the biggest flag in the world. It measures 410 x 211 feet, and weights over 7 tons.
In preparation for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the flag was brought to Space Port America, in Truth or Consequences New Mexico, for basic maintinance and cleaning.
With the help of local volunteers, over a three day period, the flag was unfurled, inspected, cleaned, and then repackaged.
