United States Army Airborne School
The First Battalion Airborne - 507th Infantry, operates Jump School, which is the basic airborne course, that is open to all branches of the military. Airborne training has been based at Fort Benning since its inception in 1940. The first mass jump in the US occurred at Lawson Field at Fort Benning on August 16, 1940. Jump school is a 3 week program that culminates with 5 group drops from either The Rock (C-130 Hercules) or The McCord (C-17 Globemaster) at Fryar Field, which is located just south of Fort Mitchell Alabama.
